Mid-2014 Global Provider Ethernet Leader Board Released

The following seven companies have achieved a position on Vertical Systems Group’s Mid-2014 Global Provider Ethernet leader board (in rank order based on port share): Orange Business, BT Global Services, Verizon, Colt, AT&T, Level 3 and NTT. Vertical’s Global Provider leader board is the industry’s benchmark for measuring multinational Ethernet network market presence. Global Providers ranked on the leader board hold four percent (4 percent) or more of retail business Ethernet installations based on billable ports at sites outside of their respective home countries.

The next or Challenge Tier for Global Providers includes companies with between 2 percent and 4 percent share of this defined market. Seven companies achieved a position in the Mid-2014 Global Provider Challenge Tier as follows (Note – in alphabetical order) : Cogent, Reliance Globalcom, SingTel, Tata Communications, Telefonica Worldwide, T-Systems and Vodafone.

“The integration of Ethernet into MPLS network infrastructures is generating revenue opportunities for global carriers, driven by customer demand for higher bandwidth connectivity,” said Rick Malone, principal at Vertical Systems Group. “More than half of new global IP VPN connections are being delivered over Ethernet.”

Based on mid-2014 port share results, there were no new entrants into the leader board. Orange Business retains the number one position, with BT Global ranking a close second. Level 3 had the largest share gain in the first half of the year, which boosts its rank from seventh to sixth position, ahead of NTT. AT&T gained share to retain fifth position, edging out Level 3 by a narrow margin.
